To test or not to test

So, at my first appointment my doctor told us about two tests that can be done, one that is not usually covered by insurance around 12 weeks, and one that usually is around 16 weeks. They looked into my insurance to see if the 12 week one would be covered and I just found out today that it is. So, now I can go have this test done and I know it would test for Downs and such, but I don't remember anything else! I was going to do some research on it so Jason and I can make our decision if this is something we want to have done and I don't even remember what it might be called... Perhaps it's this NT scan? Anyone have any idea?

Yes - your first one is the NT Scan. This scan is by far the coolest Scan ever.. Except of course if you get a 4D at the end.
Anyway this tests for Downs syndrome and a few other abnormalities, They look at the back of the babys neck and measure the fluid, they also will test your blood with a poke on the finger. John and I went with the NT scan and opted not for the 16 week scan.. Its your choice though. :0) as a first time Mom I was definitely wanting the test. :0)
Anyway good luck with your decision.

Yes, it is the NT Scan. It is basically an u/s and some blood work - nothing invasive. We are having this done on Monday in order to (1) make sure that our baby is healthy and (2) start preparing (reading, looking for resources) if something is wrong. The test isn't 100% accurate and our doctor pointed out that sometimes the results can do more harm (cause stress) than good but I honestly just want to see our baby again! Good luck with your decision!
